One of the most prestigious teas in the world, Big Red Robe is grown on the rocks of the Wuyi mountain in China’s Fujian province. It is packed full of antioxidants because the tea plants are irrigated by the nutrient, mineral rich spring water running through the rocks. The mountain blocks direct sunlight, while the rocks reflect sunlight to the tea plants creating an optimal unique growing environment and giving Big Red Robe a more complex flavor than others.
There are several legends to explain the origin of the name, Big Red Robe. According to one, the mother of an emperor was cured of her illness by a certain tea. The emperor sent great red robes to cover and protect the six bushes that the tea came from, naming the tea, Big Red Robe after the protective garments.
